The Lakota, also known as the Western Sioux, are central to the history of both Chadron, Nebraska, and Rapid City, South Dakota. Chadron was a hunting ground for the Lakota after they displaced other tribes westward. In Rapid City, a landmark court case asserted that the federal government had not justly compensated the Lakota for the Black Hills, which were guaranteed to them by treaty.
