Morelos has drawn visitors from the Valley of Mexico since Aztec times. Tlaxcala's own history was shaped by the Aztecs too: the Tlaxcaltec people allied with the Spanish to defeat the Aztec empire and kept much of their own territory intact through the colonial period.
