In the 1760s, Hyder Ali seized land in the Kanhangad region from the Ikkeri Nayaks, bringing it into the Kingdom of Mysore. Years later at Parangipettai, Mysore forces under Hyder Ali's son Karim Khan Sahib clashed with the British East India Company.
