Playwright Thornton Wilder lived in Hamden and is buried there in Mount Carmel Cemetery; he died at his Hamden home in December 1975. Peterborough, New Hampshire was the model for Wilder's play Our Town, which he wrote while staying at the MacDowell Colony.
