What company, founded by John Jacob Astor, played a significant role in the development of both Bourbonnais, Illinois and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin?
Bourbonnais is named for Francois Jace Bourbonnais, a fur trapper and American Fur Company agent who settled the area around 1830. Prairie du Chien became a center of the same American Fur Company, which built the Astor Fur Warehouse there as a hub of the regional fur trade.
