What explorer's expeditions helped map and establish U.S. presence in both Colorado and Iowa?
Zebulon Pike's expeditions were instrumental in mapping and establishing U.S. presence in both Colorado and Iowa. In 1805, much of Iowa was mapped by Pike, and by 1808, Fort Madison was constructed, solidifying tenuous military control. The following year, in 1806, Pike led a U.S. Army reconnaissance expedition into the disputed region that would become Colorado.
