Duke Ellington played the Hotel Metropolitan in Paducah as part of the touring Chitlin' Circuit, alongside Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, and B.B. King. He also performed for the Athens 'Hot Corner' community at the Morton Building, a 1910 theater popular with Black musicians.
