Vladimir the Great is linked to defensive structures in both Chełm and Ladyzhyn. In Chełm, a local legend attributes the construction of the first stone castle to him in 1001. Ladyzhyn, meanwhile, saw fortresses built by Prince Vladimir the Great in the 10th century to defend against nomadic incursions.
