The early-20th-century Argentine tango singer and film star Libertad Lamarque was named 'Libertad' (Liberty) by her anarchist father, who was in prison at the time of her birth. Her family later moved to Buenos Aires for her career, and in 1990 she was named an Illustrious Citizen there. In which Argentine city in Santa Fe Province was she actually born?
Libertad Lamarque was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, in 1908, and her local acclaim convinced her family to move to Buenos Aires for better career chances. In 1930, she won a Teatro Colon contest in Buenos Aires with the tango 'La cumparsita' and earned the title 'Queen of Tango'.
