Samosas, fried triangle-shaped pastries, are famous in Pakistan (spicy versions from Karachi, unusually large ones from Faisalabad) and are a Ramadan iftar staple. They also appear across East Africa in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Rwanda. In which Horn of Africa country did Al-Shabaab ban them in 2011?
In Pakistan, samosas are a staple iftar food during Ramzan, with Karachi known for spicy fillings and Faisalabad for extra-large samosas. In Somalia, samosas are also part of everyday food, though in 2011 Al-Shabaab banned samosas in parts of Somalia over worries about rotten meat filling.
