On February 27, 1812 the Argentine independence hero Manuel Belgrano raised the new national flag for the first time on the banks of the Parana at Rosario. In 1828 and 1832, patriots suggested renaming which town in Tucuman Province 'Villa Belgrano' in his honour, but were not successful in changing its name?
The name Villa Belgrano was suggested in 1828 and 1832 for what is now Monteros in Tucuman Province, honouring General Manuel Belgrano, but neither suggestion went through. Belgrano is remembered for raising the new Argentine flag for the first time on the banks of the Parana at Rosario on February 27, 1812.
