The Lumière brothers showed their first films in Egypt at the Toussoun Exchange in Alexandria on 15 November 1896, and today Port Said hosts a yearly festival for Arab films alongside the well-known Alexandria International Film Festival. What industry connects these two Egyptian port cities?
Egyptian films got their start in Alexandria in the early 1900s. Later most of the industry moved to Cairo, which people started to call 'Hollywood on the Nile'. Port Said still holds a film festival every year alongside Alexandria and Cairo.
