Zagreb has hosted an International Festival for this kind of show every mid-September since 1968, and Mississauga, Ontario has held its own festival every March since 2020. What art form, using everything from string marionettes to shadow figures, connects the two cities?
Puppetry is one of the oldest ways of putting on a show. Zagreb's festival, called PIF, is one of the longest-running puppet events in Europe and brings in puppet companies from all over the world. The newer festival in Mississauga shows how the art form is still spreading.
