This very busy horror writer spent part of his childhood in Durham, Maine, and used it as the model for the made-up vampire-plagued town of Jerusalem's Lot. In his Dark Tower series, the hero Roland Deschain comes from a made-up land called New Canaan. Which best-selling American author, publishing since the mid-1970s, is being described?
Stephen King grew up in Durham after his family moved there in 1958, and he used its small-town feel in many of his New England stories. He started the Dark Tower series in 1970 and finished it in 2004. Its 'New Canaan' name actually comes from the Bible, not the town in Connecticut.
