Salzburg. The Salzburg Festival production of 'Die Soldaten' was staged in 2012 by Alvis Hermanis in a spectacular cliff-carved venue called the Felsenreitschule, played by the Vienna Philharmonic. The dense modern opera by Bernd Alois Zimmermann is based on a 1776 play, and had reached London at English National Opera in November 1996.
