Galloway

Galloway, a region in southwest Scotland, shares 777 connections with 5317 other places across 28 topics, spanning government, history, literature, and sport. The region takes its name from the Gall-Gàidheil, a people of mixed Gaelic and Norse descent who settled here in the 10th century, and a distinct local Gaelic dialect survived into at least the 18th century. Strong overlaps run with London and Edinburgh. Canadian poet Watson Kirkconnell traced his ancestry here and wrote an original poem set in Galloway dated A.D. 600.
